Sarthak Inganhalli, Graduate Trainee
Sarthak Inganhalli talks to us about his experience of the Walker Crips Graduate Training Programme, sharing insights into the challenging yet rewarding training he received, the skills he developed and the opportunities that arose through taking part in the programme.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your role.
I am Sarthak, and I am 24 years old. I am currently working as a Graduate Trainee at Walker Crips Investment Management, based in the London head office.
What made you decide to join the firm?
The most important factor for me while choosing Walker crips was being in an environment where I would be continually challenged and could learn about all aspects of the Investment Management industry. Walker Crips provided me with a platform wherein I could see myself growing professionally in the investment industry.
What were the most important factors for you when looking for a role after completing your studies?
After my masters, primarily I was looking for a role in the investment management industry which provides a range of opportunities for career growth and advancement. The culture of the company was one of the significant factors as it was important for me that organisational values and beliefs align with mine.
How do you feel about the graduate programme at Walker Crips?
On my induction day at Walker Crips, I was introduced to the different divisions that make up Walker Crips Investment Management. What really fascinates me about this programme is that I am taking rotational roles within the Investment Management divisions. This experience has been valuable in understanding how different divisions work together to support the wider group. In just a couple of months, I have already started to develop understanding of the industry, with the range of products and services offered by the group.
How have you found the traineeship so far?
In my first month I was nervous but also excited. My team was very friendly and got me involved straightaway. The training that I was given was very thorough. I was surprised by how much responsibility was given to me as a graduate. I have been involved in a few projects which simplify the current processes and make the trends in clients risk and investment approaches easier to interpret. One of the benefits of the programme is that I have continuous interactions with the executives and heads of division about my future career progression.
What skills do you hope to develop during your graduate placement?
Looking ahead, I really hope to develop my further understanding of complex financial products offered in the market, simultaneously building numerical and analytical skills to understand the financial data. I also aspire to build the ability to establish rapport and trust with the clients.
What are your plans after completing your placement?
After finishing my graduate programme, I wish to study further towards professional investment qualifications and become a chartered investment manager.
